Beat It “Howl,” one of the most significant poems
of the Beat Generation, is at the center of a spectacular new film (also entitled
Howl) premiering in September. Part courtroom drama about the trial of City
Lights co-founder Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who was charged with the publication
of obscenity for publishing “Howl”; part biopic—in which James Franco is doing
phenomenal work in the role of “Howl” author Allen Ginsberg; and part
extraordinary animated interpretation of the poem itself—this film is
