In January 2013, Brian Sims will be sworn in to represent the neighborhoods of Pennsylvania’s 182nd District in Center City Philadelphia as the first openly gay elected official. An advocate, policy attorney & speaker, most notably on issues pertaining to LGBT civil rights, he had a very challenging primary election, and was able to upset a 27-year incumbent in his district to secure the Democratic nomination for state rep.
